Upcoming Series: Exposing the Shallowness of SBC Evangelism: “Calling a Spade a Spade”

call a spade a spade:
Speak frankly and bluntly, be explicit, as in You can always trust Mary to call a spade a spade. This term comes from a Greek saying, call a bowl a bowl, that was mistranslated into Latin by Erasmus and came into English in the 1500s. Also see tell it like it is.

A man has to be blind, at least Theologically blind, to not see the shallowness of Evangelism Strategies (Tactics?) in the Southern Baptist Convention. The purpose of this series is to SCRIPTURALLY evaluate SBC Evangelism Tactics.

The beginning parts of the series will be an attempt to EXPOSE the shallowness.

The latter parts will be an attempt to CORRECT the shallowness of SBC Evangelism.

I seek to be led by the Holy Spirit. I know this series will never make it to BP or receive any plaque or recognition from the SBC. Yet I pray that my efforts will be endorsed and honored by the Lord Jesus  Christ . . . His approval is all that really matters anyway . . . right?

We ought to obey God rather than men. (Acts 5:29)

Beloved, believe not every spirit , but try the spirits [even SBC Evangelism Tactics] whether they are of God: (1 John 4:1)

Saying the right thing is never popular with the majority. You can expect to be misunderstood as you expose and seek to correct error.John The Baptist kept his convictions though he lost his head.Jesus called him great. Please know that I stand with you as you endeavor to stand for the “truth of the gospel.”

There is no urgency in the pulpit about the wrath that is to come and there is no living our lives as fleeing the wrath to come. I was amazed to see certain techniques popular in sales are now being used to in evangelism. What happened to tell the sinner that he is a sinner condemned to Hell and the only salvation is Christ? It seems we want the sinner to feel good about himself. It’s like the stewardess on a burning, crashing plane giving the doomed passengers pillows rather than parachutes!

As you can tell, I’m obviously trying to “climb the ladder” of the SBC “good ole’ boy” political system. ;)

Bullseye!!! You hit the 16 penny nail on the head with a 25 pound Craftsman hammer and drove it through the plank!!

Look what I found here: http://www.founders.org/blog/

But I wonder, does he (or anyone else who shares his concerns) discern the errors that are dripping from the shallow evangelism movement that permeates our convention?

  5. Matt Stevens Says:

Chadwick, here’s a hollowpoint for your chamber-

After I finished 12 hours of Hebrew and Greek, 30 hours of evangelism and missions, and the other 87 hours of higher Christian education see (www.criswell.edu/degreeplanbabsem.html)

I considered joining up with the IMB, I called and talked to the precandidate screening person. After 20 minutes of “tell me about you and Jesus” I was asked “Do you have any education in evangelism?”, “Oh, Yes maam, my degree is in evangelism and missions, I studied world religions, emphasized Islam and Judaism, and ave served short term overseas, I am trained in apologetics, and in Cult evangelism, I am comfortable teaching a group on evangelism, or aiding a pastor in developing a evangelistic strategy for His church and community…”.

“Well, Mr. Stevens, that all sounds very interesting, however, we at the IMB are primarily focused on being able to use the FAITH method. If you have not completed 12 week FAITH training, you will need to do so prior to being considered. However, If you have (18 week) EE certification, that may substitute for your evangelistic training.”

    Just have FAITH brother….

You have not only given me a “hollow tip” . . . you have given me the “60 caliber gun” also to fire it! ‘Cause I have only been using my “pea-shooter” until NOW!!

I am going to post a video link to show the power of the “hollow-tip” you have just given me . . .

    THANKS!!! :)

I have been analyzing the FAITH evangelism model . . . therefore I will definitely use this info for the post.
