I first encountered Dr. Curtis at the South Carolina Baptist Convention Pastors’ Conference in November 2006. Dr. Curtis (the president of the 2006 SC Baptist Pastors’ Conference) orchestrated the best pastors’ conference I have ever attended; it was a “breath of fresh air!” There were no political agendas, no Calvinist-bashing, just plain encouraging Biblical preachers who encouraged the pastors. Dr. Curtis really impressed me. Then, when I read his article in the Baptist Courier, “An Open Letter to Southern Baptists,” I knew that this man was one of the few men in SBC leadership willing to address the “real problems” in the SBC. I immediately knew this man had “something worth saying.” Therefore, I emailed Dr. Curtis and begged him to allow me to interview him. The rest is history . . .
